Kilmaha is an ex-Forestry Commission cottage in the forest approximately four miles from the village of Dalavich on the West shore of Loch Awe.  There is one other cottage next door, which is lived in permanently by a couple and their two children.

The cottage is on a hill overlooking the loch and has a private mooring for a small 13ft Orkney Spinner.  There is an outboard for use by experienced occupiers of the cottage and the mooring is accessible by car.

The cottage can sleep eight, although six is more comfortable as the fourth bedroom is also a living room with an open-fire.

What Kilmaha offers:

If you enjoy fishing, walking or wildlife then Kilmaha could be perfect.  The remote location means that deer, ospreys and many other animals can often be seen from the cottage.

The fishing on Loch Awe (with permits available locally) is reputed to be excellent (although we are not as lucky as some!).  There is plenty of hill-walking locally and the higher Munros are about an hour’s drive to the North.  The forestry tracks also offer great mountain-biking routes with maps available for route planning.

What Kilmaha does not offer:

The lights and fridge are powered by solar panels and therefore there is no freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, television, DVD/Video players etc.  Although there is no landline phone, there is limited Vodafone mobile coverage.

The accommodation is fairly basic and although all attempts are made to keep it neat and tidy, Kilmaha is by no means a luxury cottage.

Water comes from a burn that runs from the hill behind the house.  This water is filtered through a ceramic filter and tested by the council annually.

You need to bring all linen, towels etc.  Pillows and duvets are provided.   More importantly there is no cleaner.  The rates charged reflect the expectation that those using the cottage leave it as clean as they would like to find it.
