 Sea Fishing Locations

Codling, dabs, coalfish, ling, mackerel, flatfish, bass, pollack. Famous Filey Brigg, ridge of rocks from which baits can be cast into deep water, is fishable in most weathers and tides. Ledgering with crab and mussel baits (summer), worm and mussel (winter) can produce good catches of cod, coalfish and wrasse. Use of a sliding float with mussel, and mackerel bait is effective technique for coalfish, pollack and mackerel (Jul-Sept). At Reighton Sands, ledgering with mussel, rag, lug and mackerel baits can produce flounders, some dabs, and occasional plaice or bass (fly fishing possible). Preferred method for bass is spinning. Local bait digging prohibited, good supplies from Scarborough tackle shop. Launching site for small privately owned boats. Local clubs: Filey Brigg AS organises fishing festival every year (first week of Sept), with 6 boating and 8 shore events. Good fly fishing for coalfish (billet) from Brigg. Tide tables from Tourist Information: Evron Centre, John Str, YO14 9DW (tel: 01723 518000).
